CWI announce Windies Women squad for Sri Lanka ODI series

by October 7th, 2017

Jamaican all-rounder Stafanie Taylor heads the West Indies Women team who have been named for the upcoming three-match One Day International series against Sri Lanka in Trinidad.

The 13-member squad, which also includes vice-captain Anisa Mohammed, is completed by Merissa Aguilleira, Reniece Boyce, Shamilia Connell, Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Kyshona Knight, Kycia Knight, Hayley Matthews, Chedean Nation, Akeira Peters and Shakera Selman.

Commenting on the squad, Courtney Browne, chairman of the CWI selection panel, said: “The final squad as we mentioned previously, would have been based on a strong work ethic during the training camp that was held over the last couple of weeks.

“Focus was also placed on selecting a balanced squad, noting that some of our key players are all-rounders. We have maintained a core group of players that have performed before for the team, along with a few young players and we must now allow the coaching staff to drive performance.”

The first game takes place on October 11 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy with game 2 and 3 to be held at the same venue on October 13 and 15 respectively.

The three-match series will form part of the new round of matches in the ICC Women’s Championship which will be contested between the top eight teams on the ICC Rankings.

The top three teams plus tournament host New Zealand will qualify automatically for the 2021 ICC Women’s World Cup.

The remaining four teams will have a second chance to secure their spots through the ICC qualifying tournament.
