Dacres throws new national and Diamond league record in Rabat

National champion Fedrick Dacres launched himself into the history books on his way to a new national record and personal best at Sunday’s IAAF Diamond League meeting in Rabat.

A sensational effort saw him establishing a new Diamond League record of 70.78 metres in the men’s discus to become the 25th man in history to throw over 70 metres.

It took a successful appeal led by a video review to confirm the validity of the world leading effort that was initially struck down as a foul.

Dacres topped the field ahead Sweden’s Daniel Ståhl (69.94m) and Austria’s Lukas Weisshaidinger (68.14).

Meanwhile a dramatic men’s 110m hurdles saw world and Olympic champion Omar McLeod settling for for 5th in 13.48 seconds

McLeod led the race before falling over the final hurdle with the fast finishing Sergey Shubenkov before they both tumbled over the line. The Russian won in a season best and meet record 13.12 seconds.
