Dalton Browne dies at 64; Sean Paul, Maxi Priest, and more pay tribute

Tributes continue to flood social media platforms following the death of veteran guitarist, Dalton Browne.

The 64-year-old who was recovering from quadruple bypass surgery which he underwent last Thursday (October 29), died at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in St Andrew on Sunday (November 1).

On Instagram, his brother Danny Browne wrote, “Exactly one week ago I told my brother Dalton that I love him for the first time in my life. Now he’s gone. He was, is, and will always be my hero.”

Singer Maxi Priest, Dancehall Deejay Sean Paul, and producer Lenky Marsden are among the industry players who also used social platforms to pay respects to Dalton Browne.

Lenky Marsden wrote, Your passing was sudden and I wasn’t prepared. This is a sad day in music for me. Not only were you a great guitarist but a great human being Rest in peace Dalton Browne.

While Maxi Priest in his Instagram post remembers touring, being in the studio, or just hanging out with Dalton Browne whom he describes as humble and supportive.

Sean Paul also used Instagram to send his message of condolence. “R.I.P #DaltonBrowne fly high mi g. Condolences 2 the entire Browne family,” wrote the Grammy-winning dancehall deejay.

Last week, the Browne family made an urgent appeal for blood for Dalton’s surgery.

On October 25, the renowned guitarist suffered a massive heart attack and was admitted to the University Hospital of the West Indies.

Dalton Browne who was the second of five Browne brothers, got his early introduction to music in the 70s with his brothers Glen (bass), Noel (keyboards), Cleveland (keyboards), and guitarist Danny as part of the Browne Bunch.

Also, a member of the 12 Tribes of Israel, Dalton Browne was a long-time musical director for Freddie McGregor’s band and played on most of Freddie’s hit songs including Big Ship, Push Come to Shove, and Prophecy.

Dalton Browne also worked on Akon’s 2006 album, Konvicted.
