Danniel Thomas produced a record breaking effort to win gold in the women’s shot put at the NCAA Division One Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Thursday.
Thomas of Kent State University, who represented Jamaica at the Rio 2016 Olympics, topped the field with a championship record 19.15 metres to become the first female national champion in the history of Kent State Athletics and third national champion for the program.
She bettered her previous career-best mark of 18.49 metres three times on her way to the gold medal.
Thomas’s national record is also the second best collegiate mark ever, an NCAA Outdoor Championship record and a Kent State record.
