Defending champion Garbine Muguruza advanced to the fourth round of the French Open Tennis tournament in Paris this morning with a straight-sets victory over Yulia Putintseva.

Muguruza was troubled by Putintseva in the first set before winning 7-5, 6-2 .

On the men’s side ….nine-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal produced a brilliant display to beat Nikoloz Bashashvili 6-love, 6-1, 6-love in just 90 minutes.

Dominic Thiem eased to a straight-sets victory over Steve Johnson after sealing a 6-1, 7-6 6-3 success, while Nick Kyrgios crashed out of the season’s second grand slam with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 second-round loss to tough south African Kevin Anderson
