Despite slugish start Usain Bolt advances to men’s 100metres semi-final at IAAF World Championship

Legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt started his final step towards a golden goodbye to athletics by booking his spot in the semi-finals of the men’s 100 meters on today’s opening day of the IAAF World Championships in London.

Back at the stadium where he declared himself a “living legend” after retaining his 100metres and 200metres titles at the 2012 Olympics, the 30-year-old recovered from another sluggish start to win his heat in 10.07 seconds.

Bolt admitted he had a poor start, but was satisfied to get across the line first.

Earlier Julian forte sped to a personal best 9.99 seconds in winning heat three to book an automatic spot

2011 world champion Yohan Blake produced an easy effort by finishing second in heat two in 10.13 seconds by Abdul Sani Brown of Japan who clocked a personal best 10.05 seconds

Senoj Jay Givans failed to make progress after he finished 7th in heat one in a time of 10.30 seconds.

Meanwhile world number two Fredrick Dacres and Travis Smikle both made progress to the final of the men’s discuss.

Dacres a former World Youth and Junior champion hurled a best effort of 64.82 meters to earn an automatic qualifying spot.

Smikle advanced with the 12th best effort overall with a throw of 63.23 meters.

Demar Forbes made progress to the final of the men’s long jump finishing with the 10th best overall leap of 7.93 meters. No such luck for Ramone Bailey who finished 21st overall with a leap of 7.76 meters

In the meantime Mo Farah captured his tenth global gold medal when he conquered the men’s 10 thousand meters as he too begin the final steps towards the end of his Gliterring track career.

Farah clocked a world leading 26 minutes 49.51 seconds in winning the event.
