Devon Smith half century lead Windies on rain hit day 2

Play on the rain shortened second day of the second Test saw the West Indies scoring 116 runs and losing two wickets against Sri Lanka at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia.

They stand only 135 runs behind Sri Lanka, with eight wickets still in hand. Only 42.3 overs were delivered in the day, the rain arriving during lunch to wash out much of the afternoon and evening sessions, before stumps were eventually drawn due to bad light at 5:55 pm.

Opener Devon Smith is unbeaten on a patient 53 – his seventh overall, and his first since April 2015 – while Shai Hope is on 2.

Smith faced 134 balls while hitting 4 fours and a six to help the Windies to 118 for 2.

The 36 year old also shared in two half century partnerships, putting on 59 for the first wicket with Kraigg Braithwaite – who fell for 22 – and 56 for the second with Kieron Powell who went for 27.

Kasun Rajitha (1-25) and Lahiru Kumara (1-48) accounted for the wickets for Sri Lanka.

The Windies lead the two Test series 1-0.
