by January 1st, 2021

Irate residents of Dexter Street in Savannah la Mar, Westmoreland today staged a fiery road block, in protest after a teen boy was allegedly shot and killed by members of the security forces.

Relatives have identified him as 14 year old Yohimbe Bryan, of Dexter Street.

The boy’s sister, Kerine told Irie FM News that the incident occurred shortly after mid night, at the gate of the family home.

She said they had gathered to welcome the New Year in prayer and silence, when shots were fired at the group, sending children and adults running for cover.

She said the relatives were prevented from taking up the wounded boy as he lay on the ground, and that he died before they could reach the hospital.

The incident has left relatives, and other residents who witnessed the shooting, traumatized.

She wants justice for her brother, who she said was killed in cold blood.

She is refuting claims that a gun was recovered from the boy.

Meantime, Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central George Wright, visited the area today, in a bid to restore calm.

Mr. Wright said agents from the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) have already collected statements.

He said support and grief counselling will be offered to the boy’s family.

Head of the JCF Communications Unit Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay confirmed the incident, but was unable to provide details.

She said a statement will be issued soon.
