Local Government Minister Desmond Mckenzie says disaster committees across the island have been activated to respond to emergency situations that might result from hurricane Elsa.

He is appealing to residents in flood-prone areas to pay attention to bulletins issued by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), and the MET service.

The minister says he has instructed that drain cleaning be undertaken.

Meantime, in eastern Jamaica, Mayor of Morant Bay, Michael Hue says preparations are in high gear.
