Discovery Bay residents stage another beach protest

by August 4th, 2018

Some upset residents of Discovery Bay, St. Ann staged yet another demonstration along the highway, to again appeal for government intervention, over a section of the beach in the community.

The protesters say Peach Beach is the only public bathing beach remaining in Discovery Bay and they do not want Red Cross to give up the property.

The placard bearing residents gathered at the entrance to the beach and chanted this morning, in an attempt to get attention to their plight.

Chairman of the Community Development Committee, Lee Arbourn, told Irie FM News that privatisation of peach beach would be a significant loss to locals and the Discovery Bay area.

She claims that developers of the nearby Puerto Seco beach have engaged the Red Cross, which operates Peach Beach, in order to lease and develop it, into a marina.
