Discussions have started around the new salary rate for teachers, under the government’s restructured compensation system.

The Jamaica Teacher’s Association, signed on to the new system last week, after months of deliberation.

The public school teachers, as well as principals and vice principals, should have received their retroactive payments, and new salary rates, on Tuesday.

A zoom meeting involving teachers and representatives from the education ministry was held on Tuesday, to facilitate queries, related to the new salary system.

Education Minister Fayval Williams said compensation is very important, and should be treated with care.

She said the meeting allowed for the teachers concerns, to be addressed.
