by November 3rd, 2018

Novak Djokovic edged out Roger Federer in a high-quality Paris Masters semi-final to set up a meeting in Sunday’s final with rising Russian star Karen Khachanov.

In their 47th meeting, the Serb took the match 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 7-6 (7-3) in three hours and two minutes.

The result marks the first time in their 47-match rivalry that Djokovic has won four successive matches and also sees the 31-year-old extending his win streak to 22 matches.

Earlier in the day Khachanov continued a spectacular week with a 6-4 6-1 demolition of world number 8 and tournament sixth seed Dominic Thiem to cement a spot in his first Masters final.

Victory for Djokovic on Sunday would see him draw level with Spain’s Rafael Nadal on 33 career Masters titles. He will now have the chance to mark his return to the world no 1 ranking on Monday with a fifth title of the year.

Federer meanwhile remains one short of becoming just the second man to record 100 career titles.
