Persons who are the first in their family to enter university will be eligible for a scholarship from a Peoples National Party led government.

The promise was made PNP President Dr. Peter Phillips at today’s (Sep 16) Annual Conference at the National Arena in Kingston.

Dr. Phillips told party supporters about the value and importance of education, and of having an educated work force.

He reiterated the PNP’s stance on what he called the apartheid system in education, and again pledged that the next PNP government will change that system.

Dr. Phillips said the first in the family scholarship programme is aimed at helping university students raise the quality of life for their families.

Meantime, Dr. Phillips has outlined some educational initiatives that the next PNP led government will undertake.

He cited the challenges many university students have with repaying their students loan.

Dr. Phillips said under the PNP, a cap will be placed on how much students will be required to repay from their salary.

Dr. Phillips added that a graduate repayment opportunity work programme will also be developed.
