Dr Phillips unveils 27 member shadow cabinet

Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips today (Sep 28) unveiled a 27 member shadow cabinet.

In making the announcement Dr. Phillips said the new shadow cabinet will take account of the ability to provide an effective opposition in parliament and to give signal of priority areas of the PNP and a future PNP administration.

Among the notable portfolio changes are Fitz Jackson who was appointed opposition spokesperson on national security and Senator Mark Golding in finance and planning.

Peter Bunting is now the opposition spokesperson on industry, investment and competitiveness.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dayton Campbell will serve as the opposition spokesman on health, Dr. Angella Brown Burke will oversee local government, while Damion Crawford is appointed as spokesperson on youth and culture.

Donna Scott Mottley will be the opposition spokesperson on justice, while Lisa Hanna is the new opposition spokesperson on foreign affairs and foreign trade.

Anthony Hylton will have responsibility for development and national planning which falls under the leader of the opposition.

Senator Sophia Fraser Binns is opposition spokesperson on land and environment.

Meanwhile, Horace Dalley will oversee labour and welfare with the assistance of Floyd Morris who will oversee welfare, while Ian Hales will hold the water and climate change portfolio. Dr. Morais Guy now focuses on housing.

Those retaining their portfolios including Phillip Paulwell overseeing mining and energy, Julian Robinson for science and technology and  Noel Arscot for community development and social transformation.

Rev. Ronald Thwaites continues with education and training with the assistance of Michael Stewart in charge of training.

Mikale Phillips in charge of transport and works with the assistance of Richard Azan.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips says the new shadow cabinet comprises of a mix of both youth and experience and will provide effective oversight of government activities.

Dr. Phillips indicated that the PNP will reconsider its representation on the committees of parliament, following the announcement of the by-election for 3 constituencies by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
