Science Minister Dr. Andrew Wheatley says by-products from the newly built bio digester sewage plant at the Noel Holmes hospital can be used for human consumption, if properly treated.
He says the water as a by-product of the bio-digester sewage plant is no different from that treated with chlorine by the National Water Commission.
However, Dr. Wheatley says if persons are skeptical about the human consumption of treated sewage water from the bio-digester sewage system, then the next best option is that of agricultural use.
The Science Minister says farmers are likely to produce better crops using treated sewage water, as opposed to water treated with chlorine.
He further explains that farmers can also utilize organic waste as a means of fertilization.
He was speaking at the handing over the newly built bio- digester sewage plant at the Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea, Hanover yesterday (Oct 26).
