Driver of garbage truck that killed Clan Carthy boy charged

The driver of the garbage truck that overturned and killed Clan Carthy primary school student, Benjamin Bair, has been charged with manslaughter.

 

He is 52 year-old, Alten Brooks of Nine Miles, Bull Bay, in St. Andrew.

 

He is to appear in the Home Circuit court, on Friday.

 

7 year old Bair, of Slipe Pen Road, Kingston 5, was killed last month, after truck collecting garbage at the school ran into a motor car before overturning on him.

 

The government has indicated that the education ministry would be looking at policies to make the school environment safer.

 

The policies will specifically look at garbage collection and how to prevent a repeat of the tragic incident, including the prohibition of garbage collection during school hours.
