Edu Min: No outbreak of Hand Foot & Mouth disease

by October 26th, 2019

Government is urging parents and school administrators to be vigilant, and take steps to help prevent the spread of the hand, foot and mouth disease.

The hand-foot-and-mouth disease is a mild, contagious viral infection common in young children, and is characterized by sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet.

In a statement today, the ministry of education stressed that there is no outbreak of the disease.

The ministry said it received isolated reports of cases of hand, foot and mouth disease in the island.

However, contact with the ministry of health and wellness, which has been monitoring this and other health issues, indicate that there is no general outbreak of the disease.

Surveillance data indicate that there is no unusual number of cases in any area in the island.

In the meantime, the education ministry is urging schools administrators to take every precaution to prevent the spread of the disease, and monitor their students for symptoms.

The ministry said in collaboration with the health ministry, it will continue to provide tips on preventing and managing the spread of the disease.

There is no specific treatment for hand-foot-and-mouth disease.

Frequent hand-washing and avoiding close contact with people who are infected with hand-foot-and-mouth disease, may help reduce risk of infection.
