Edu Min to establish national standard for high school leavers

by August 17th, 2018

Minister of Education, Senator Ruel Reid, says there is a need to establish a national standard for students leaving high schools, in Jamaica.

The minister says a national school leaving certificate will address the lack of a unified standard, for graduating students.

Senator Reid says the narrative that 5 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations are necessary for entry level jobs needs to be changed, as it is not relevant for many fields.

He says the ministry is aiming to redefine the minimum graduation standards, as many students are now sitting other examinations, such as those offered by City and Guilds.
