Elaine Thompson rebounds with victory in Birmingham

Reigning double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson rebounded from her disappointing fifth place finish in the World Championships by romping to victory over 100 meters at the 12th meeting of the 2017 IAAF Diamond League in Birmingham yesterday.

Thompson captured the event in 10.93 seconds and turned the tables on world championship silver medalist Marie-Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast

Ta Lou clocked 10.97 for second place. Thompson and Ta Lou were well clear of Jamaican Jura Levy, who finished third in 11.08 while world championship bronze medallist Dafne Schippers finished sixth in 11.22 seconds.

National champion Kimberly Williams mined silver in the women’s triple jump after she had a best effort of 14.44 meters.  World championships 8th place finisher Shaneika Ricketts was 6th with 14 meters flat as the event was won by Colombia’s Caterine Ibarguen who leapt 14.51 meters

In the meantime Janieve Russell was a third place finisher in the Women’s 400 meters hurdles in 56.67 seconds as the event was won by Zuzana Hejnova of the Czech Republic who clocked 54.18 seconds.
