Elaine Thompson runs world leading 10.89 seconds in Rome

Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson  was in scintillating form today at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Rome yesterday.

This as she clocked a  blistering world leading 10.89 seconds to win the women’s 100 meters, defeating into second place triple European champion Dina Asher smith who ran 10.92 seconds on her first 100metres outing of the season, and American Alecia Hobbs  who was third in 11.12 seconds.

Marie Jousee Talou of the Ivory Coast was fourth in 11.14 seconds.

Another Jamaican in Jeneive Russell was fifth in the women’s 400 meters hurdle sin 55.42 seconds, with victory going to Dalilah Muhamad of the United States in 53.67 seconds.

The Jamaican pair of sharia Jackson and Stephanie- Ann McPherson finished second and third respectively in the women’s 400 meters. Jackson crossed the line in 51.05 seconds and McPherson stopped the clock in 51.39 seconds. The event was won by Salwa Naser of Burundi in 50.26 seconds.

While in the field Odyane Richards was sixth in the men’s shot put event with a best effort of 20.93 meters.
