Kenyan marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge and Colombian triple jumper Catherine Ibarguen were today crowned 2018 male and Female athletes of the year at a glitzy ceremony in Monaco. 

Kipchoge destroyed the marathon world record in berlin with his stunning time of 2 minutes 01:39 seconds and he also won his third London marathon title

On her way to being the top athlete of the year Caterine Ibarguen the Colombian had a historic long jump / triple jump diamond league and continental cup double-double.

In the meantime Armand Duplantis collected the IAAF male rising star award.

The Swede cleared 6.05m to go number two all-time in pole vault outdoors, he was also the European senior champion and World under 20 champion with a championship record.

American Sydney McLaughlin won the female rising star award.

She had two under 20 records in the 400 meters hurdles, two Indoor under 20 world bests and the world senior lead over 400 meters hurdles.
