by March 8th, 2021

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Dancehall deejay Tanya Stephens has shared a powerful tribute to Rita Marley.

In the lengthy, well-written post shared to Instagram, Tanya Stephens wrote in part, “Some heroes simply survive, thrive, stand tall as evidence of what can be. Rita Marley big up yourself. You are a bigger human than most of us will ever be.”

Other International Women’s Day tributes came from Tifa, Kabaka Pyramid, and the current Miss World, Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh.

To commemorate the day celebrating women, Dancehall deejay Tifa did an acoustic version of her song ‘Overcome’ to wish whom she called “female overcomers” a Happy International Women’s Day.

To mark the global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, Reggae singer Kabaka Pyramid, used a snippet of his ‘Natural Woman’ music video to honour especially black women.

Meanwhile, current Miss World, Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh shared her Women’s Day message celebrating women who have come before us, and those that will come after us.

International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8, is this year under the theme, ‘Choose To Challenge’. A challenged world is an alert world. And from challenge comes change.
