Entertainers tribute King Tubby

On the 32nd anniversary of the passing of Sound Engineer King Tubby local entertainers will pay tribute to the dub pioneer through music.

The event dubbed King Tubby Tribute will be streamed live on payper view from the studio of King Tubby’s mentor King Jammy’s on March 27, 2021.

The event will be hosted by IRIE FM’s Amber and feature performances from King Tubby’s protégé Anthony Red Rose, Dean Fraser, Thriller U, Courtney Melody, Duane Stephenson, Knowledge, Lutan Fyah, Turbulence and King Jammy’s Sound System among others.

The Firehouse Crew will also be releasing a dub album, Tribute to King Tubby, especially for the event.

Osbourne ‘King Tubby’ Ruddock was shot and killed on February 6, 1989 outside his Duhaney Park home after returning from a session at his Drumalie Avenue studio in Waterhouse.

King Tubby’s musical journey began when he was 17 years old. Tubby, who earned his kingship from his innovativeness, used his small Waterhouse studio to create a sound that redefined the Jamaican popular music of the 1960s and 1970s

King Tubby is considered the inventor of the remix concept. His most famous dub, was King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown in 1974.
