Enthusiasm high as full face-to-face classes resumed today

by March 7th, 2022

The Education Ministry reported a high level of enthusiasm among students and teachers as full face-to-face classes resumed today (March 7, 2022).

The resumption of classes at some early childhood, primary and secondary schools, follows a prolonged closure and the engagement of students via different modalities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Education Minister, Fayval Williams, who visited some schools today, told Irie FM News that the students and teachers were happy to return to the classrooms.

She said her ministry will continue to work to close the learning gap experienced by the nation’s students.

And as schools re-opened to the full complement of students today, Minister Williams urged students to follow the protocols put in place to prevent the spread of covid.

Speaking at the Old Harbour High school, Mrs. Williams expressed delight at welcoming the students back to school after two years.

She noted that many students had been missing out due to a lack of devices, connectivity issues, and other shortcomings.

Mrs. Williams said while students are no doubt looking forward to interacting with their peers in the normal classroom setting, caution must be taken as the pandemic continues.

She reiterated that schools had to re-open given the learning loss experienced over the past two years while noting that it will take a lot of effort on the part of the students to recover.
