Today marks the 131st year of the birth of the great Marcus Mosiah Garvey.
To commemorate the lifeworks of Jamaica’s first National Hero, IRIE FM is staging its annual Marcus Garvey Celebration on Sunday, August 19.
The celebration in its 26th staging is this year dubbed, LIBERATE THE MINDS OF MEN AND ULTIMATELY YOU WILL LIBERATE THE BODIES OF MEN. The free event, produced and presented by the number Reggae Radio Station is geared towards educating, motivating, and uplifting the masses through the spoken word, music, arts and culture.
Headlined by the legendary Bunny Wailer, the Marcus Garvey Celebration will see live performances from the likes of the Richie Spice, Singer J and Bongo Herman.
I JahKnowah who flew in from Atlanta for the event says he is honoured to carrying on the work of his ancestors.

Other entertainers lending their talent in support of IRIE FM’s Marcus Garvey Celebration are Lila Ike, Runkus, Jah Izrehl, and Keke I, along with Bunny Wailer’s Solomonic Reggaestra.
Meanwhile, the speakers include Humanitarian and writer, Professor Bayyinah Bello, Antiguan journalist and Rastafarian ambassador, Ras Franki Tafari, and Louis Farrakhan’s representative, David Muhammad among others.
The day and night event is slated to run from 6 am to 10 pm, with a LIVE Outside Broadcast of the Africa Forum with Ka’Bu Ma’at Kheru and Mutabaruka.
The Marcus Garvey Celebration will be held on Sunday, August 19 at its usual home in the IRIE FM Courtyard.
Admission is free.
