When Judo athlete Theador Subba steps out on the mat to represent Jamaica on the weekend at the Tokyo Paralympics he will be creating history.

This as he will become the first ever visually impaired athlete to represent the country and the first to do so in judo at the Paralympic level.

The University of the West Indies student who took up the sport only three years ago has been fast tracked at the international level after he secured the Para Pan championships in Lima Peru a year later.

His rankings earned him a wild card spot at the Paralympics after the Covid 19 pandemic derailed the regional qualifying tournament last year.

23 year old Subba who will compete in the 100kg division spoke to Irie fm sports about how his preparations have been going so far as he aim to be among the medalists in his weight division.

Meanwhile veteran Silvia grant who will be at her 8th Paralympics will get the ball a rolling for Jamaica when she competes in the discus event tomorrow morning Jamaica time.

Subba will be in action on Sunday while quarter miler Alberto Campbell will take to the track on Monday.

Taekwondo athlete Shauna kay Hines will be the last Jamaican in action when she competes on September 2.
