Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke has sought to assure public sector workers that consultations with Unions over the restructuring of the compensation system should end within six months.

Dr. Clarke made the revelation last night (May 15) in an address to the nation, following a series of industrial action by several groups last week.

Although the six-month timeline seems far away, Dr. Clarke urged people to consider the scope and complexity of the compensation reform. He said nothing of this nature had been previously conducted in the country.

He appealed to public sector workers to be calm and patient.

Dr. Clarke assured public sector workers that they could rely on the partnership with the Government, trade unions and bargaining bodies.

He warned that Jamaica’s economic gains could be easily reversed if groups proceed to take industrial action.
