Finance Minister says economy on right path

Minister of Finance, Dr Peter Phillips, says the country is well underway to improved economic reform, given the projections for growth.

Speaking at the tenth IMF review this morning (November 13), the minister said, the country has achieved a lot in a short period, in comparison to where the country has been.

He said among the many achievements garnered under the economic reform programme, is a decline, in the unemployment rate .

According to Labour Survey Statistics, highlighted by the minister, the employable labour force is estimated to be increased by one thousand jobs, over the next five years.

The minister said there has been an increase in the number of young people employed, specifically those aged 20 to 24 years.

He said from the 18 thousand four hundred jobs made available from April to July of this year, there has been an increase of eleven thousand two hundred jobs, now belonging to those in the 20 to 24 age group.

The finance minister added, that with the increase in jobs over the past four years, there has been an increase in the pace of job creation, over the last year.
