Fire damages Knutsford depot in Mobay

by May 21st, 2017

The Knutsford Express is in the process of assessing losses incurred following a fire at its airport pick up base in Montego Bay, St. James yesterday.

The fire reportedly destroyed a building that was being constructed at a section of the Sangster International Airport.

The base was intended to be a more convenient pick up location for persons traveling to and from the airport.

Reports to Irie FM News are that the fire broke out about 7 o’clock yesterday evening (May 20).

Acting Assistant Superintendent of the St. James Fire Department Uton Bernard says the brigade responded with three units from the Freeport Station, as well as one unit and an ambulance from the Ironshore station.

Assistance was also given by emergency responders from the airport.

The teams worked to put out the blaze, which affected at least 2 container buildings.

Mr. Bernard says initial investigations indicate that the fire may have started in a room, where the batteries for the solar panel are stored.

Meantime, Corporate Coordinator of MBJ Airports Limited, Catherine Carter  says yesterday’s fire did not affect operations at the airport.
