Firefighters resume normal operations following industrial action

by May 11th, 2018

Operations at fire stations across the island have returned to normal.

This after a meeting involving the management of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, and the unions representing fire fighters and civilian workers, at the Labour Ministry this morning (May 11).

Firefighters and civilian staff began protests yesterday, over outstanding issues, including payments due from the 2017/2018 period.

General Secretary of the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers, Helene Davis Whyte, says at this morning meeting, the parties agreed to a back to work formula.

Another meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 15.

Meantime, Public Relations Officer at the Fire Brigade, Emelio Ebanks, says as far as he is aware, all firefighters and civilian staff are back at work.

He says, the industrial action taken by them between yesterday and this morning did not hamper operations.

Mr. Ebanks says, despite having fewer members on duty, the brigade did not have a situation where it got a call, and could not respond.
