Fisher seeks to prevent removal from Director of Elections job

by October 30th, 2017

Director of Elections Orrette Fisher is taking legal action to prevent the Electoral Commission from removing him from the job.

Fisher’s one year appointment expires tomorrow. It is reported that the post is to be advertised.

Fisher, who is being represented by attorney-at-law Hugh Wildman has brought an action in the Supreme Court against Governor General Sir Patrick Allen and the Electoral Commission.

He is seeking an injunction to bar the Commission from removing him from the post.

When the matter came before Supreme Court Justice Carolyn Tai today (Oct 30) she  adjourned  the matter until tomorrow and  directed that the respondents must be served.

Fisher is contending that his one-year appointment was illegal because the law clearly states that the appointment must be for seven years.
