Five Jamaicans die in Bronx fire

Five Jamaicans, including children, are reportedly among 12 people who died in a massive fire at an apartment building in the Bronx in New York City last evening (Dec 28).

Four are from the same family; however their identities have not been released.

Reports are that another member died today, bringing the number to 5.

New York City investigators believe the fire was caused by a child playing with a stove.

Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith says the ministry is awaiting a confirmation of the number of Jamaicans affected, as well as, the names of the victims.

Mrs. Johnson Smith is expressing sadness at the tragic loss of life.
