Flooding reported in Aenon Town, St Ann; Met Office extends severe weather alert

by May 6th, 2018

Heavy and continuous rainfall since yesterday has resulted in flooding in sections of Aenon Town, near Cave Valley in St. Ann.

The police are advising the public that the Aenon Town main road is impassable due to flooding.

Additionally, a bridge was also damaged due to heavy rain in the area.

Motorists are being advised to take alternative routes, such as the Johns Hall main road.

And, the National Works Agency says a bridge at Thachwalk along the road from Spalding to Cave Valley has been blocked by debris due to heavy rains.

The nearby coffee farm road is being used as an alternative route. Extreme caution is advised.

Meantime, the Met Office has extended a severe weather alert effective until 5 a.m. tomorrow.

The trough west of Jamaica is expected to continue influencing weather across the island tonight and tomorrow as it lingers across the western Caribbean.

Although projections are for showers and thunderstorms to continue affecting sections of the island tonight and tomorrow afternoon, a gradual reduction in shower activity is expected late Monday into Tuesday.

Fishers and other marine interests are advised to continue to exercise caution as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms due to gusty winds.
