The much anticipated bout between boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor will take place on August 26 in Las Vegas.

The official announcement was revealed by Mayweather the former pound-for-pound king and five-division world champion on social media.

The fight which had first been speculated in 2015, sees Mayweather ending a 23-month retirement at age 40 to face McGregor who is the first ufc fighter to simultaneously hold titles in two different divisions.

Mayweather, who retired after beating Manny Pacquiao, is unbeaten after 49 professional fights.

The 28 year old McGregor is 21 and 3 after 24 bouts in the octagon.

Mayweather is a -1,000 favourite at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas, with McGregor paying back +700.

The Mayweather-McGregor card will be boxing only, but Mayweather has said he wants two of his company’s top fighters to appear on it, Badou Jack (21-1-2, 12 KOs), a former super middleweight world titleholder who vacated his belt in January to move up to light heavyweight, and junior lightweight world titlist Gervonta Davis (18-0, 17 KOs).
