Follow-up Cease & Desist Order

by June 15th, 2015

The St Ann Parish Council has ordered an immediate follow-up investigation, to determine if China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) is complying with a Cease and Desist Order, in relation to construction works in Moneague.

The matter came-up at last Thursday’s monthly parish council meeting.

It’s reported that The Municipal Police, as well as representatives from The Roads and Works Department, went to Moneague last month, to investigate reports that CHEC was carrying out construction in the area.

The Council was told that a cease and desist order was served on CHEC, after it was reported that work began on a toll plaza.

It was revealed that CHEC had applied for permits in relation to the construction of a toll plaza, a gas station and a restaurant, however, these applications are being processed, and no approval has been granted.

Chairman of the St Ann Parish Council, Mayor Desmond Gilmore says the Chinese should not have started construction while the applications were still being processed.

The Mayor instructed that agents from roads and works revisit the site, to ensure that CHEC is adhering to the Cease and Desist Order.

One councillor then suggested that an officer be assigned to do follow-up investigations, on the construction project, on a weekly basis.

However, Mayor Gilmore said the investigations should be done as often as possible, and agents take photographs of the construction site.
