The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade says it has not received any report of Jamaicans injured, or having lost their lives in the recent disaster in Haiti nor any Jamaican being in Afghanistan at this time.

Haiti was rocked by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on Saturday (August 14), which killed some 2000 and injured thousands, while there is ongoing political turmoil in Afghanistan after the taliban took control of the country.

In a statement this morning (August 19), the ministry says it continues to monitor the situation on the ground in Haiti, through the Honorary Consul for Jamaica in Port-au-Prince.

The ministry says it is engaged through CARICOM and ODPEM and remains ready to provide support to Haiti.

Anyone wishing to assist the relief efforts may make financial contributions to a special account, managed by ODPEM. The number is 212387304, (at NCB Oxford Road Branch).
