Former Reggae Boyz defender Michael Johnson appointed new head coach of Guyana

Former Reggae  boyz defender  Michael  Johnson  has  been  appointed  as  the  new  head  coach  of  the  Guyana  national  football  team.

Johnson who is UEFA pro-licence holder and has a  league manager’s association diploma in football management is the most qualified national coach in history for Guyana.

The 44-year-old was part of the Jamaican national squad that competed at the 2000 Concacaf Gold Cup and boasts a professional career spanning two decades in the English league Championship and the English Premier league with clubs such as Derby County and Birmingham city.

He played 13 times for   Jamaica between 1999 and 2003.

He is scheduled to visit Guyana shortly to meet the team, football stakeholders and the national media as well as to observe progress in the construction of the national training centre at providence.

His immediate target is to help Guyana qualify for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, on the way to the 2026 FIFA World cup finals.
