by April 24th, 2019

Former West Indies women captain Merissa Aguilera has announced her decision to retire from international cricket.

Aguilera…..a veteran of 112 one day internationals led the ‘Windies from 2009 to 2015 before she was replaced by Jamaican Stafanie Taylor.

During her time at the helm……she guided the team to the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2013 and the semi-finals of the women’s world T/20 in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

Arguably the pinnacle of her career came in 2016 where she was part of the West Indies side that secured the world T/20 crown in India.

The 33-year old wicket-keeper ends her international career with 177 dismissals….a feat that’s bettered only by South Africa’s Trisha Chetty and England’s Sarah Taylor.

Her announcement comes after she was left out of the Windies women squad for the upcoming tour of Ireland and England.

The 14-member squad along with six reserve players will assemble in Antigua from May 6 to 20 for a training camp, before departing for Ireland on May 21.

The West Indies women will play Ireland in three T/20 internationals on May 26, 28 and 29.

Then they play England in three One Day Internationals as part of the ICC Women’s Championships on June 6, 9 and 13.

The ODI series will be followed by three T/20 internationals on June 18, 21 and 25.
