by November 3rd, 2018

The western section of the island has recorded 4 road fatalities in the last 5 hours.

This after road crashes were reported in Trelawny and Westmoreland this morning (Nov 3).

Two persons were killed following a motor vehicle collision involving a coaster bus, and a Toyota corolla motor car, along the Spring Hill main road in Duncans, Trelawny.

While the incident has been confirmed, the falmouth police say the details of the crash are not yet available.

However, Director of the Road Safety Unit, Kenute Hare says speeding was a main factor.

Over in Westmoreland, two men are dead following a motorcycle collision on the Prospect main road, in the parish.

They are: 29-year-old Tean Collin, a hotel worker of Church Lincoln district in Westmoreland, and 29-year-old Kerol Bernard of Prospect District, also in the parish.

Reports from the Frome police are that about 10:45 this morning, Collin was driving a motorcycle along the main road, when he attempted to overtake a parked motor truck.

He collided into Bernard, who was driving a motorcycle in the opposite direction.

The two sustained injuries and were taken to hospital where they died while undergoing treatment.

Mr. Hare says motorcyclists continue to put themselves at risk by not wearing the necessary safety gears.

The Road Safety director says these crashes are as a result of poor choices.

He reiterates his appeal to all road users to wear their seat belts, helmets, and other protective devices to save lives, as well as, to pay close attention to road signs and markings.
