Four men shot – 2 fatally – in Hayes, Clarendon

Residents of Hayes in Clarendon are calling for increased security presence, after 3 persons were shot – one fatally – by gunmen, in the community, yesterday (Feb 8).

Dead is 32 year old Steve Gayle, otherwise called ‘Ugly Man’, of Mineral Heights, in May Pen.

Two other men were shot and wounded during the incident.

Reports from the May Pen police are that about 9:30 a.m., Gayle and two other men were at a cook shop, when armed men travelling in a Toyota Yaris motor car, opened gunfire at them.

The police were alerted and the 3 men were taken to hospital, where Gayle was pronounced dead.

The 2 wounded men were admitted. Their condition is not known.

Gayle’s father told Irie FM News, that his son was a helpful and jovial person.

Reports of Gayle’s death caused a large crowd of people to converge on Hayes square, in their shared grief over a fallen community member.

Police had to divert traffic due to the congestion.

And, a resident appealed for more soldiers and police officers to patrol the community, in a bid to reduce crime.

Meantime, relatives of another Clarendon man are reportedly finding it hard to come to terms with his death, at the hands of gunmen in the Hayes community yesterday (Feb 8).

Dead is 24 year old Oshane Anthony Hyman, otherwise called ‘Micey’, a mason of Hayes district.

Reports from the May Pen police are that about 9:30 a.m., Hyman was riding a bicycle along the roadway, when he was attacked and shot dead by armed men travelling in a Toyota motor car.

Hyman’s mother told Irie FM News, that her son was not involved in any wrong doing.

She described Hyman as a hard working young man, who was the bread winner of the house.

Another relative said Hyman was very helpful to people in the community.
