by May 31st, 2019

The Manchester police have launched a probe in the shooting and wounding of 5 males, including 4 high school students in the Greenvale community, in Mandeville, yesterday.

Reports are that about 5:40 p.m. several persons had gathered along the bethel roadway in the community, for a football match.

It’s reported that a Toyota Vitz motorcar drove up and men armed with guns alighted from the vehicle, and opened fire on the community members.

When the shooting subsided, 5 persons were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

The wounded males were taken to hospital, where they were admitted for treatment.

Meantime, at least one of the wounded boys is said to be recuperating well, after emergency surgery, today.

The young man, who is a fifth form student of the Mile Gully High School, was reportedly shot 4 times.

Member of Parliament for North West Manchester, Mikael Phillips, said he visited the wounded persons in hospital today.

He said another male student also underwent surgery today, and is in good spirits.

In the meantime, the North West Manchester MP has indicated that efforts are being made by various stakeholder groups, to prevent a reprisal and flare up of violence in the Greenvale community, following the shooting and wounding of 5 persons, yesterday.

Mikael Phillips said that the Greenvale community is among those considered by some to be volatile, but over time, groups such as the Peace Coalition, have been making positive changes through intervention.

While calling for a thorough probe by the police, the MP said he does not expect gains made by the peace groups to be significantly impacted.
