Occupiers of a property in Frazers Content, in Spanish Town St. Catherine are calling for government intervention, following efforts to have them removed.

This after heavy duty vehicles were brought in today and some buildings destroyed.

The residents say the persons who claim to own the land have gone about the eviction in the wrong way.

Some of the residents say they have occupied the land for over 30 years and no one has ever come forward before, claiming ownership.

They say while they are aware that they are living there illegally, they would have preferred more time to find somewhere to relocate to.

It’s reported that about 2 weeks ago, representatives of a security company informed the residents that they have 30 days within which to move out.

They were only given eviction notices today.

The residents say they are willing to buy the land from the owner, if that option is available.

They are calling on Member of Parliament for West Central St. Catherine Dr. Christopher Tufton to intervene.

Attempts to contact Dr. Tufton and Housing Minister Dr. Horace Chang proved futile.
