Geo Tech Visions refutes Technology Minister’s claims

by November 27th, 2019

Managing Director of Geo Tech Vision, Valrie Grant has refuted claims made yesterday by the technology minister in parliament regarding the company’s role in the tablets in schools project.

The government’s technology company, E-Learning Jamaica, ended its agreement with Geo Tech Vision due to some challenges with delivering the items requested, and Geo Tech Vision is taking the matter to court.

In a bid to clear up what she called inaccuracies made by minister Fayval Williams to parliament, Ms. Grant said in a statement today that this could have been avoided had the minister responded to a request for a meeting.

Grant said the primary concern, is the minister’s assertion that there has been no change to the contract.

The managing director countered this claim, citing recent comments made by E – Learning Jamaica’s CEO Keith Smith.

Geo Tech Vision said actions and or omissions on the part of E Learning Jamaica subsequently caused a delay in the performance of the contract.

It said the latest change to the contract was received from E Learning Jamaica on September 13, one business day before the notice of termination on September 16.

Meantime, Geo Tech Vision noted concern raised in parliament as to the quality of the tablets.

The company reiterated its claim that it stands by its product, and again sought to assure that its tablets are of the best quality, even surpassing the technical specifications of the government contract.

It said the over 19,000 tablets are on island in a warehouse, and as such, if the government is interested in ascertaining the truth, they would have followed the recommendation made to have the tablets independently tested.

Ms. Grant further claimed that to date, the company has not gotten a response to letters sent to the government, and that it’s hoped that the Integrity Commission will intervene.
