Opposition Leader Mark Golding has called on the government to cap the special consumption tax, SCT, on oil, and pass on the benefits to citizens, impacted by rising prices.

In his contribution to the budget debate on Tuesday, Mr. Golding noted, that the war between Russia and Ukraine, has pushed up the price of oil.

He also reiterated the call for the hedge tax on fuel to be returned to citizens.

Mr. Golding wants the cap on the SCT, to minimize the effects of the rising cost of electricity and gas on citizens.

He said capping the SCT will not affect the budget.
