Government invites Bounty Killer to tour Cockpit Country

by August 5th, 2019

Ongoing talks about the preservation of Jamaica’s Cockpit Country by dancehall heavy-weight Bounty Killer have caught the attention of government officials.

The Poor People Governor has been invited to a meeting at Jamaica House on Thursday, August 8, after which he will tour the Cockpit Country with Senator Matthew Samuda.

As Music News reported Friday, Bounty Killer called out Prime Minister Andrew Holness stating that “ANY GOVERNMENT SELL OUT THE COCKPIT SHALL NEVER WIN AGAIN IN JAMAICA. I’M NOT A JLP NOR A PNP. I’M A TRUE JAMAICAN.”

The issue of mining in the Cockpit Country has been a sore point for many stakeholders including environmentalists and community members, who have objected to the area being opened up to Bauxite Mining, despite assurances from the government that no mining will take place.

A few entertainers, including Queen Ifrica and Spragga Benz, have been using their social media platforms to influence others to join the fight for the preservation of Jamaica’s Cockpit Country.
