Govt. examining options regarding Jamaicans in China

by February 2nd, 2020

Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith has sought to assure Jamaicans in China, that the government is examining the possibility of removing them from the far east nation, amid fears about the coronavirus and growing anxiety about not being able to leave.

In a message shared on her social media pages, Johnson Smith reminded the Jamaicans that both the Chinese government and the World Health Organisation, have strict rules regarding travel and reducing the spread of the virus.

She pointed out that where other countries have evacuated their nationals from China, those countries used their own planes, and had to assure China and the WHO of measures taken to provide adequate care for those persons.

Johnson Smith said the Jamaican government is supporting their nationals in China, by sourcing help for food and other supplies.

She encouraged the Jamaicans in China to support each other.
