Govt reports drop in number of missing children

by May 2nd, 2017

State Minister in the Ministry of Education and Youth, Floyd Green, says there have been declines in the number of children going missing, and the number of missing children who are found dead.

He says one reason for the decline is the effectiveness of the Ananda Alert system introduced in 2009, to help to broadcast the information of missing children.

The state minister also appealed to parents, to keep current pictures of their children, as that will aid in investigations, to help bring home those who are missing more quickly.

Mr. Green says 90 % of all who are reported missing, eventually return home.

The state minister says, there is a 50 % decrease in the number of children who are found dead, after being reported missing.

He was speaking at the launch of the Ananda Alert on Facebook partnership, at a hotel in Kingston yesterday.
