Government Senator Kamina Johnson Smith has assured that the new minimum wage will become effective, on Thursday.

This after concerns were raised by Opposition Senator Lambert Brown during the Senate on Friday.

Senator Brown questioned why the order for the minimum wage was not brought to the senate for affirmation ahead of the effective date.

In response, Senator Johnson Smith indicated that affirmation by the Senate was not necessary, and that the order had already been gazetted.

Effective June 1, the national minimum wage will be increased to 13 thousand dollars, while the wage for industrial security guards will be increased to 14 thousand dollars.
