The Finance Ministry intends to go ahead with plans to change the negotiating cycle for public sector workers from 2 years to 4, despite rejection of the offer by some groups.
An order for the change was tabled in parliament, this afternoon (Mar 13).
Opposition Spokesman on Labour, Horace Dalley, rose at the end of today’s sitting to bring his concern on the matter, to public attention.
He criticized the government for the unilateral move, vowing that the Opposition will not allow the order to be passed.
In response, Finance Minister Audley Shaw, sought to explain the rationale for the order.
He noted that the negotiation cycle must be consistent with the policy set out in the fiscal management strategy.
