Gov’t working on plan to reduce impact of high fertilizer and feed prices on farmers

The Agriculture Ministry says it will be presenting a proposal to the Finance Ministry, for the consideration of the removal of duties on imported items necessary, for agricultural production.

 

This, as the costs of fertilizer and feed, continue to increase, due to supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic and the crisis in Ukraine.

 

Effective today, the price of animal feed supplied by Nutramix increased.

 

Presently, farmers receive GCT relief on a number of inputs, including fertilizer (except urea) and feed.

 

The Agriculture Ministry says it is preparing a list of items, to be submitted to the ministry of finance for consideration, for the removal of other duties on imported items that are necessary for the enhancement of agricultural production and productivity.

 

Portfolio Minister, Pearnel Charles Jr. says the ministry has intensified discussions, with stakeholders, with a view to develop a plan, to reduce the impact of high fertilizer and feed prices on farmers.
